Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire

Last night went to see HP 4 finally after just about everyone I know has seen it! Well...everyone who likes HP anyway! Went to Eastgardens thinking super Tuesday meant $5 movie tickets but got a rude shock to discover that super Tuesday isn't super at all! In fact it's the same price as every other day if you're a student! But was running late (as usual every time I see a movie!) so couldn't go elsewhere.

Movie was alright I suppose. I felt (like all the other HP films) that it was super rushed and they didn't really do justice to many scenes (like the Quidditch World Cup!). Alot of the characters were miscast as well I reckon. Still don't like the new Dumblydore - seems like a rather weak character. Cho wasn't as pretty as I imagined she'd be after all the hype in the book but they really did Hermione justice at the ball! So all in all, book still rules but film was alright. JK - bring on the final installment!!!

Gradball!

Today was the last event of my medical student life *sob* *sob*!!! The last event at which we were all together as the class of 2005! Gradball was a cruise affair and to be honest, not having been on a cruise function before, I had my doubts...I mean, if it sucked, you wouldn't even be able to leave early!!! And besides, our church was having its very first Carols by Candlelight event tonight and honestly, I thought I'd enjoy going to that more. But it turned out to be a really fun night!

A whole bunch of us easties caught taxis to Wharf 7 at Darling Harbour where Big Dave and Chuck greeted us and stamped us. Eventually the glass cruise boat arrived and we boarded! It was kinda small for 230 of us but it wasn't too bad. There was an upstairs open rooftop deck which deck chairs and tables and a bar which was really cool - literally! Throughout the night, we enjoyed chatting on the deck, admiring Sydney Harbour in all its glory, and even fireworks from the nearby Carols in the Domain! The dinner itself was surprising great! From entree to dessert, I was really impressed!

The night ended at the stroke of midnight and we disembarked back at Darling Harbour. We spent the usual half an hour or so deliberating what to do as a group before some people decided to go to the afterparty at Cargo Bar whilst others decided to just go home. Eventually we decided to go to Khuong's place to hang. Caught taxis back there and hung out there till around 3.30am in the morning by which time I was kinda out of it and it was time to get some much needed sleep!

Graduation Day!!!

Wow today has finally come and gone! I had been looking forward to this day for ages! You know all those times you see other people graduating and doing the whole photography tour around uni campus...I would look and them and think - geez that'll be me in 6 years time!!! And today was my turn! In some respects it almost feels like an anticlimax but at the same time I really did enjoy the day. It was a day in which I was able to reflect on the last 6 years and yeah I realised that I have come a long way and have really accomplished something to feel proud of. Not that I usually like to go around feeling proud cos one thing I really hate is people who rate themselves heaps, but yeah I felt like today was an exception!

I was so happy to finally get that precious scroll! I was even more happy that I didn't trip over on the stage when I was getting it! "Shake, take, doff and off" I was thinking as I walked up there. You think that after 6 years of uni you'd have no problems doing that and before I knew it, I was sitting down again with my scroll in my hand! After the ceremony we went to the scientia to order a graduation plaque and pick up my gradbook. It was really cool that two friends dropped by - Jules from high school and Wilson from church! Thanks guys - you guys are champs! Then it was time to take a couple more photos before removing the gown and mortar board to become ordinary me once more (I reckon wearing that gown and stuff can give you a big head!) At the end of the day, I have to say that the overriding feeling was one of relief! The day was immortalised in the form of digital photography, the folks were happy, and I guess I can finally say when people ask that I'm a qualified (scary as that may be!) doctor! Residents of Bankstown - watch out! =P

Pregraduation Photo Day!

Today I guess you could say was my penultimate day as a medical student! After a grey sky threatened rain briefly in the morning, God parted the clouds to allow warm rays of sunshine to stream upon the grounds of UNSW! Meanwhile, a group of excited med students, myself included, had flocked to UNSW to pick up their graduation gowns, hoods and hat thingies from the Gift and Graduation shop!

We then spent the morning and much of afternoon taking photos (and not one, not two, but heaps!!!!!!!) all around the campus. We took some really really awesome shots, both serious and candid and my favourite had to be one of a bunch of us in a tree! Will have to put that up when I get it off someone's camera! Our antics drew a many odd looks from passers by but also many really nice congratulations and well wishes from total strangers! Our avid photography session was interrupted only by something that could lure a bunch of Asians anywhere - a free medical indemnity insurance company sponsored breakfast!!! In the end it wasn't that great a breakfast but hey, it was free and they even gave us a free tendon hammer!

After our afternoon photo session, we headed to Shona's place for Big Dave's mmm mmm mmm pancakes!!! They were really awesome Dave! A perfect day was capped off by 2 quick games of Settlers at Jimbo's place!

A Wedding, Carols, Shopping & Board Games!

On Saturday, went to Will Ng's wedding in Willoughby. I must say I was surprised that I was invited cos I really don't know Will that well...just through the couple of Christian in Med events we've been to together, but it was nice of him to invite me anyway! Thank goodness his wedding was at 11.30am cos it meant I could sleep in and not be late! And it turned out that I turned up on time for once - yay! Twas a beautiful wedding and there was a very challenging evangelistic sermon! It was also the final wedding I'll be attending in Sydney this year, which as wonderful as weddings are, is somewhat of a relief! When God willing I finally get married, I'll be sure to be super appreciative of people giving up one weekend day of rest to come to my wedding cos funnily enough they are quite tiring!

On Sunday, went to Bondi Junction Westfields to meet parents for yum cha at Kam Fooks there but by the time we got there, the queue was a massive 1 hour wait so we decided to find the (cheap!) foodcourt there and get fast food. So went all the way to Bondi to have Oportos! Oh well! Got back and it was time for music rehearsal at church for our very first St Mark's Malabar Carols by Candlelight!!!!!!! Very very exciting! But very sad that I can't actually make it cos it clashes with my Graduation Ball. To be honest, I think I'd rather go to the Carols by Candlelight if I hadn't already paid for my tickets! But yeah our band was sounding pretty good by the end of the rehearsal and I was super impressed! I really do pray that God will be using this event as an outreach to the community and to renew people's interest in Christianity and church!

Today went shopping with Jimbo at Burwood! Twas quite funny really! Imagine a white Aussie guy and a little Asian guy who have hardly any clue about fashion sense wondering around a mecca of fashion outlets not really knowing what they want except that something 'nice' for Gradball would be...umm...err...well...nice! Oh yeah, also wanted something 'in' and perhaps even 'metro'! Ended up finding something we were happy with for the right price.

Then headed over to Caz's place for nice make your own pizza lunch! Was good to just hang and catch up with some people I hadn't seen in a while! Played cards and Xbox which was fun! Thanks for having us over at your place Caz! After dropping off my computer at a dodgy asian guy in Kingsford to be fixed, came home to see a pleasant surprise waiting on my doorstep! A precious cargo from the US of A and something I've been waiting to receive for 2 months!!! Settlers!!! Settlers of Catan!!! I felt like a kid opening a Christmas present early! So yeah planning on having Settlers party soon!

Okey dokes, that about explains everything in the title! Time to watch Survivor Guatemala finale!!!

A Perfect Day in Currarong!

Just got back from Currarong today, a seaside town about 2.5 hrs south of Sydney near Nowra! Went down with some med friends, one of whose parents owns a beach house there! Man it was soooooo nice! The weather was just fantabulous and it was great spending 2 days just lazing about, swimming at the beach and playing board games/card games into the early hours of the morning! Every time we go down there (this was the 3rd time I think!) I just never want to leave!

Ok ok just imagine, a house just metres from the beach. You wake up (late after sleeping in!) and sit on a banana lounge on the verandah and before your eyes is an endless stretch of the whitest sand in the world with crystal clear water lapping onto the beach! After a lovely brunch, you walk down to the beach and take a stroll in the water which is just the right temperature! Then as the sun rises, you take a dip into the aquamarine waters to cool off! After enjoying the cool water and playing piggy in the middle with friends, you get out and find a shady spot on the beach, lay out a beach towel and lie down for a nice afternoon nap. After your nap you wait for the sun to gently set over the mountains to the west whilst admiring the spectacular miriad of colours God paints the sky with! Now is that a perfect day or what!!!

A Beautiful Day!

Today was Simon and Flora's wedding!!! Woke up on this beautiful sunny day rather early to make the trek across Sydney for the morning church service in West Pennant Hills. Got there nice and early surprisingly for once given my habit of being late to most things! I guess this was one thing I was definitely NOT going to be late for!

The service was beautiful! It was great being witness to the way God has brought Simon and Flo together and how obvious their love for God and each other is. We were all challenged by Ken's talk about what is required for a marriage to work and for a couple to be in loving relationship with one another and with God.

Afterwards the reception was held at Mandalay in Lane Cove. This venue was like a private function place similar to Pete's reception venue and Steph's reception venue. It was a really nice mansion surrounded by lovely blooming gardens and great for taking photos! Lunch was a superb 3 course affair with speeches and toasts interspersed between courses. Some of the speeches were quite revealing as well as touching! It all finished around 5pm by which time I was rather buggered!

Simes and Flo - I wish you all the best as you begin your new journey through life together. Today marks but the beginning of a long road that will be filled with times of happiness and difficulty. I pray that God would grant you both the love and strength to keep on serving one another and Him faithfully!

Every saga has a beginning...

WOW! My very first blog! How exciting! Don't know who's going to read it but hey nonetheless, it'll be nice to have an online diary of my random ramblings and thoughts on stuff plus major happenings in my life and perhaps if I could be bothered, even a few photos to share! I've always wanted to have a diary but geez the effort required to go and actually buy one every year and then the feeling that you have to write in it every day...so yeah I guess a blog is a good enough alternative! But then, someone once told me that having a diary will only give someone a means of finding your deepest darkest secrets you write in it...well we'll have to see what I decide to put in this blog then eh?! =P

Okey dokes, all this excitement is making me sleepy so time for bed! (^-^)zzzzzz
